In this fast-moving field, computer science researchers need to disseminate their results quickly, often favouring conference publications over journal articles. This is reflected in the Springer Nature collection, over 70% of the titles are conference proceedings.
Included in this number is the renowned Lecture Notes in Computer Science, which also comprises state-of-the-art surveys, tutorials, and festschrifts. Other notable series include the Communications in Computer and Information Science and the IFIP Advances in Information and Communication Technology, which recently celebrated their 2,000th and 700th volumes respectively.
The collection provides the most current research on the rapid technological and scientific developments stemming from artificial intelligence, in particular the machine learning paradigm, as well as relatively new subject areas which are now critical to society, for example information security.
Computer Science has a growing influence beyond technical domains and we support this with titles on human-computer interaction, computer games, social networks, computational creativity, and the ethics of computing. Finally, we have a wide range of books on other significant computer science topics, examples include computer vision and pattern recognition, and inherently interdisciplinary areas such as data science, distributed computing, information systems, software engineering, and the Internet of Things.

We are a truly international publisher, serving the research community around the globe. With hubs throughout Europe, the Americas and Asia Pacific we are perfectly positioned to connect with our book authors and editors wherever they are located. Our global base of editorial staff is located in cities such as New York, London, Heidelberg, Tokyo, Beijing, New Delhi, Singapore, Melbourne and São Paulo. They constantly travel to scientific meetings and universities to connect with the research community.
Ralf Gerstner graduated from Karlsruhe Institute of Technology in 1984. He originally worked as a system architect, software developer, project manager, senior consultant (and some other nice titles used exhaustively in the computer science industry) for 15+ years both at universities and with companies like Siemens and SAP. He joined Springer in 2001 with the aim to publish science books for graduate students, advanced professionals, and researchers in both academia and industry in the areas of information systems, databases and information retrieval, and software engineering. Today he leads a global team of four editors who are also responsible for theoretical computer science, quantum computing, security and cryptology, networking, computer education, human-computer interaction, multimedia technologies, mobile computing, and various computer applications.
Ronan Nugent is an Editorial Director in the Springer Computer Science proceedings team, with responsibility for related book series, including Lecture Notes in Computer Science (LNCS). He joined Springer in 2000, in his earlier role his team published textbooks and monographs in theoretical computer science, cryptography, information security, artificial intelligence, and computational intelligence. An electronics engineer by training, from 1989 to 2000 he developed embedded hardware and software systems, managed quality and product engineering programs, and partnered in a campus technology startup.
Celine Chang, Editorial Director, graduated with a Ph.D. degree in Information Engineering from Nanyang Technological University in 2008 and worked as a system engineer, software engineer, and researcher at companies including HP and Fujitsu. She joined Springer in 2011 with the aim to locate and engage first-rate authors and editors to develop high-value reference content (including monographs, textbooks, professional books, major reference books, and conference proceedings) for researchers, graduate students and advanced professionals. At present, she leads a global editorial team responsible for book publications in the areas of artificial intelligence, computational intelligence, machine learning and neural networks, computer vision, natural language processing, natural computing, high-performance computation, data science, robotics, etc.; and also the proceedings publications from Asian countries.
