Max Planck Society open access books partnership agreement

Information for institutions and authors

If you’re affiliated with a Max Planck Institute, you are eligible to receive a discount on the standard Book Publishing Charge (BPC) when you publish your book open access (OA), under the open licence CC BY.

Authors affiliated with any of the 86 Max Planck Society’s institutes are eligible for a discount on the standard BPC when publishing their book OA with the open licence CC BY, thanks to the OA book agreement between Springer Nature and the Max Planck Digital Library (MPDL). Additionally, the MPDL will contribute central funding toward the discounted BPC, lowering the costs for authors even further.

The agreement covers all Springer Nature book imprints, ensuring your work is freely accessible and discoverable to all communities across science, technology, medicine, the humanities and social sciences. Your work will also be available to readers around the world via Springer Nature's content platform Springer Nature Link.

“Through this agreement with Springer Nature, we further advance one of our core missions — to support Max Planck scientists in the dissemination of their research. By covering a significant share of the open access book publication costs, we are enabling more of our authors to publish their work openly, increasing their readership and impact.”

Ralf Schimmer, Head of Information at the MPDL
