What are Researchers From Around the World Publishing at Springer Nature?

We took a look at the data around publications at Springer Nature with SN Insights, a new scholarly analytics tool built on top of Digital Science's Dimensions. Dimensions, a networked research knowledge system built by six Digital Science portfolio companies includes more than 91 million publications, almost 4 million awarded research grants, over 35 million patents, and nearly 400,000 clinical trials. Here we break down the massive figure into the work we publish at Springer Nature.

With 12 million publications, 2 million being open access content, as of November 2019, we’re proud of the research we’re shepherding into the world. The research we publish has had over 127 million citations, and continues to grow across our brands. The top 5 publications by publication output - Lecture Notes in Computer Science, Nature, Scientific American, Reactions Weekly, and Analytical and Bioanalytical Chemistry - reflect the vast diversity of Springer Nature’s publication offerings. 

Wherever you conduct your studies, there is a place for your research. The categories for published research range from medical and health sciences, where there are over 2 million publications, to literary studies with over 33,000 publications. Springer Nature authors publish with us from around the globe, but we took a closer look at four key regions to share more about the research output from the United States, Japan, Germany, and the U.K. 

United States

Authors have published over 1,353,400 articles with over 536,800 articles published open access. Research is published in a number of disciplines with the most publications classified under clinical sciences, biochemistry and cell biology, genetics, public health and health services, and psychology.
