Roles and permissions

Roles and permissions

Different roles and permissions are assigned to each editor when your journal is set up in Snapp.

Lead Editor

Editors with the highest level of permissions in the submission system. They can:

  • See all submissions to the journal, including all collection submissions
  • Access the analytics dashboard
  • Assign and reassign manuscripts to other editors
  • Assess manuscript suitability
  • Find and invite reviewers
  • Make all decisions (revision, accept and reject)
  • Assess and approve decision recommendations

Deciding Editor

Editors who manage specific manuscripts assigned to them. They can:

  • See all submissions assigned to them
  • Unassign themselves from manuscripts, but cannot assign or reassign to other editors
  • Assess manuscript suitability
  • Find and invite reviewers
  • Make all decisions (revision, accept and reject)

Recommending and Request Revision Editor

Editors who manage specific manuscripts assigned to them and make recommendations for final decisions but can request author revisions. They can:

  • See all submissions assigned to them
  • Unassign themselves from manuscripts, but cannot assign or reassign to other editors
  • Assess manuscript suitability
  • Find and invite reviewers
  • Request revisions to a manuscript that go straight to the author
  • Make recommendations for final accept or reject decisions

Recommending Only Editor

Editors who manage specific manuscripts assigned to them and make recommendations for all decisions. They can:

  • See all submissions assigned to them
  • Unassign themselves from manuscripts, but cannot assign or reassign to other editors
  • Assess manuscript suitability
  • Find and invite reviewers
  • Make recommendations for revision, accept or reject decisions

Assigning and Recommending Editor

Editors who see all manuscripts submitted to a journal, assign manuscripts and make recommendations for all decisions. They can:

  • See all submissions to the journal, including all collection submissions
  • Access the analytics dashboard
  • Assign and reassign manuscripts to other editors
  • Assess manuscript suitability
  • Find and invite reviewers
  • Make recommendations for revision, accept or reject decisions

Journal Supervisor

Those who can track or monitor the handling of manuscripts through the peer review process. They can:

  • See all submissions to the journal, including all collection submissions
  • Access the analytics dashboard
  • Assign and reassign manuscripts to editors

Guest Editors

Guest editors can be set up with any of the following editor roles depending on the level of permissions they require for a specific collection:

  • Lead Editor
  • Deciding Editor
  • Recommending and Request Revision Editor
  • Recommending Only Editor
  • Assigning and Recommending Editor

Lead guest editors and assigning and recommending editors can see all papers submitted to a collection to which they have been given access, but not other manuscripts submitted to the journal. They also cannot access the analytics dashboard for the journal.

Guest editors with other roles are only provided permissions to collection manuscripts to which they have been assigned.

For multi-journal collections, lead guest editors and assigning and recommending editors can see all papers within a collection, regardless of the parent journal.
